I’ve Been Away…I Know.
Life just doesn’t always co-operate with social media.
First pic: The “affected” leg. I know it is not my leg’s fault. It is a good, strong, useful appendage. Except for the last 6 weeks. I have not been at the box for a month, have not lifted, jumped rope or even run for more days than I care to remember. Many days I am unable to walk the length of the block from my truck to my office without having to stop due to the pain. But you know what, I am not dying. I do not have cancer, or have had a stroke or some other insidious malady. This too shall pass.
Soon I will be able to toss the saddles into the back of the truck or strap up my sneakers for a run or skip happily into crossfit with a smile and ”good morning” for my mates.
Until then I am hanging upside down on the inversion table, having robvibe stick his elbow into my butt, grilling amazing dinners and hanging with the fam.
As for the last pic, Bode and I slept outside on the deck last night. Futon mattress, lots of blankets, pillows and even a cat. What a good day!
We ate well for two days then were compelled to indulge in a Vocellis spinach garlic pizza. It was delicious.
@Robvibe and I were all set to spend a relaxing last full day of vacation together, until I rode with Zoe for 2 hours, came home and fell dead asleep. Can you say, “In the dog house”? I hate when I do that crap. It wasn’t on purpose but none the less….
As far as riding goes, It was a good day, sunny but cool and I was back on Trinity as my hip/leg could not handle an afternoon on butt head Apache. And Zoe handled him beautifully. I am so proud of the equestrian she has become.
And finally, It is all fun and games until someone gets a chicken stuck in their hair!
Kids are off to camp tomorrow. A kid free week for Rob and I. Hopefully I won’t sleep through it all *sigh*
Wearing an Edgar Suit, Grilling Steak and Rainbow Dash:
The theme of my sciatica (yes it has a theme) has progressed from Skippyjon Jones, “He’s a pain in the sciatica” (spoken in a perfect Chihuahua Spanish accent) to wearing my Edgar suit. Honestly folks, as the day progresses and my body stiffens and aches I become all disjointed while I try to walk. I look eerily similar to the bug infested Edgar of Men in Black fame. And then there’s the sugar. Yeah, my eating could become problematic as well.
Yesterday however, my eating was pretty much on point. I enjoyed a Buffalo chicken salad for lunch and dinner consisted of grilled New York strip steaks with mushrooms and onion and fire roasted Brussels sprouts.
And to top off our day, Bode is now on board with My Little Pony taunting’s. He borrowed my phone yesterday to take the above pic and text it to his dad. I have a feeling Rainbow Dash is becoming our new family mascot!
Now off to hang on the deck, watch some chicken tv and enjoy our Holiday. Keep safe and Have a Happy 4th Everyone.
WIW: The “How we are spending our vacation” Edition. And other random shit.
Been away for a bit as I am finding it hard to be upbeat, positive and fitness/food focused when all I am really doing is trying to figure out how the hell to get anything accomplished on one leg and while dealing with constant pain. I have determined I am not good at pain.
My weight isn’t going anywhere either. Today’s weight is up due to we are on “vacation mode”. We close our office every year during the week of the fourth of July and hence we are off, but this year we aren’t travelling so robvibe and I are hanging around the homestead, trying to formulate our perfect margarita and we are on the right track for sure!
Rob has also moved, revamped and secured the chicken’s coop. We lost 2 hens this week to predators while they were free ranging. Very sad indeed, but as the predators live here in the wilds of South Buffalo Township, we decided to make some improvements to the coop.
So today’s weight: 162.4
Happy Hump Day All!
The last soccer tournament of the year!!
Had an early 6:15 am start, an epic hat, and off to Erie PA for the last soccer tourney of the year. This weekend we are enjoying U14 ladies soccer with Goal Keeper Zoe “The Wall” .
The girls won their first game 2-0 and Zoe and I enjoyed a lunch of zucchini planks and chicken wings.
We also may have scored a free hotel room. But not sure yet
Looks like a lovely weekend thus far, wish @robvibe was here with us.
New Breakfast “Muffin”
I saw a similar egg dish posted by #mainlyfood and decided to give it a try. We lined the muffin pan with my brother’s home smoked bacon, added egg (courtesy our backyard girls) and topped with cheddar.
We baked at 375 degrees for about 30 minutes. They turned out ok. I think what I will like most about these is their portability. There are 6 of these little guys chillin’ in a baggie in the fridge. They will make a nice grab ‘n go breakfast or snack.
I’m now off to drop the kids at the in-laws for a birthday party then off to an appointment with my pcp. Time to check in and formulate an absolute treatment plan for my hip/leg. It is difficult to not be frustrated with the constant level of pain I am experiencing.
Just another lesson in empathy, or patience, or what ever the hell is supposed to be the take away message this time. (Maybe it’s staying positive in a sucky situation…..nah, surely that’s not it…..)
WIW: The “This is Close as I Get to the World Cup” Edition.
Not much new to report in my world today. Still have sciatica, had to sit out another WOD, watching U11 soccer try outs and weight is mostly unchanged.
Today’s weight: 161
Not a loss but not a gain either. I’m not eating junk I’m just not strict enough and then there’s the whole “I can’t crossfit right now” challenge.
I am checking in with my pcp tomorrow. Not expecting much but thought I’d like to have a conversation with him about treatment expectations and outcomes.
Fitblr or Chickblr?
As mentioned briefly last night, Zoe travelled to Philadelphia (from Pittsburgh!) yesterday to pick up an injured chicken who is part of a rental flock (www.rentthechicken.com).
This hen was dubbed “Little Chick” by the humans who had been renting her and she was somehow attacked and injured while still in her coop. Her right wing is damaged and showing some signs of infection.
Pictured above is “Little Chick” after a Betadine bath (the dark color on her wing is a mixture of iodine and blue kote it is NOT actively bleeding). As the injury is showing signs of infection we have begun treatment with penicillin. She will get 1/2 cc per day for 4 days in alternating sides of her breast (it’s the only place she has enough meat to absorb the needle).
Any eggs Little Chick lays for the next 2 weeks will be discarded as they will be contaminated with the antibiotic. Bummer. But we are hoping for a full and speeding recovery.
In other news, my sciatica still sucks and I will be missing my WOD tomorrow (insert pouty face here).
Monday: A Pictorial Tribute
Lots of interesting stuff today, just none of it really involving me.
I went to the box this morning but leg/hip was too jacked up to do any of the wod. I did a lot of push ups, sit ups, and push presses.
I had a lunch of Thai peanut curry chicken and also was able to borrow an inversion table.
Zoe has been on a full day road trip to Philly and back. Jenn at Rentthechicken.com needed some company to exchange an injured chicken from one of her renters. Hopefully she’ll be home soon nursing said chicken back to health.
And finally a shower on the porch. Interesting way to end the day.
Enjoying a Sunday off together.
@Robvibe and I replaced our grill today, enjoyed cocktails along the way and dabbled in a bit of light reading.
Zoe’s new flock is coming along nicely. They are already growing beautiful new feathers and she is doing a bang up job of desensitizing the killer Jack Russell.
My sciatica is proving a bit of a challenge but I am up for the fight. 6:15 am (modified I am sure WOD) tomorrow and a full day of treating patients. Here’s hoping my leg doesn’t fall off.
I could totally be a Professional Food Blogger……
- except my kitchen is a mess
- I am an average cook
- I don’t take gorgeous photos
Never mind I like being an Acupuncturist better anyway :)
PS: the thai peanut chicken wraps in the top pic were AMAZING
robvibe ” I was an ogre, but now I crossfit”
Loving our afternoon off; spending time on the deck, reconnecting and Keeping it fresh!
WIW: The “I worked out so hard my bra popped off” Edition.
For real, I got a new Under Armour bra and this design has a clasp with a zipper up the front. Well this bra was obviously not designed to withstand a D cup practicing double unders for 3 minutes, as it literally came undone and I had free range boobs at the box. Luckily Rob and I were the only ones still there so no innocent bystanders were injured or emotionally scarred by the event.
My weigh in today: 162.
I need to bust out of “maintenance eating” or I will never reach my goals!
Now off to an Epsom salts bath and then to a V-E-R-Y long day of helping people feel better and making the world a happier place. I ♡ my work!
Martini on the deck, smoky moxa on my leg and perfectly smoked brisket.
I’ve been thinking off and on throughout the day about my June goals. Tomorrow is the 10 th. 1/3 off the month gone and I am wondering am I 30% off the way to my goals? I fear not. So tomorrow I sit down and assess my progress. Should be interesting (at least to me).
Moxa is one of the more fun aspects of acupuncture treatment. If you look closely you’ll see a very cool smoke “cloud” lingering on my leg. And why does my leg look like it’s bent so weird?
And finally YAY! Sciatica under control(ish) and I get to go back to the box! I’ve missed 3 WODs and I am not happy about it!
Things I learned today: And a gratuitous chicken picture.
1. Be Fierce: I have been practicing (with some slight success) keeping my mouth shut at our kids soccer games. Sometimes that just doesn’t work for me. Case in point today, very loud obnoxious, rude etc man sitting 2 chairs to my left at daughters game. I reached my max, couldn’t keep quiet and challenged him to play 15 minutes on the field with those girls. And there was no way in HELL he could’ve. And he needed to be told to shut the hell up and let those young ladies play.
2. Be Humble. The only insult said gentlemen could lob at me was “fat ass”. That jerk. He has no idea the work I put in. The push ups, pull ups and god damn burpees I do. I have no doubt he would struggle with our “intro class” wod, but there he sits, and to him the worst insult he could lob at me was “fat ass”, obviously as I am still over weight.
3. Be Grateful: My loving husband robvibe was there as were my son (sitting right behind me) and my daughter (in goal in front of me); their take on it? That dude was a jerk, I had your back, but he was no where near winning that argument….but most of all…..Mom, you are not fat, and “mom, you are so much more fit than before you started crossfit”.
My family has my back. There are so many assholes in this world and the number one thing they pick on….our weight. BTW this dude was an easy 50# over weight, but it didn’t matter he was out to hit below the belt. He just didn’t realize that either above or below my belt (FUPA aside) this chick is rock solid and will take his red neck ass to task any day of the week……wait….I was supposed to be humble. Shit, back to the drawing board.
